What’s a “Tattoo Chat”? Why I Interview Every Client Before We Begin
🖤
Every tattoo I create is deeply personal—for you, and for me. I consider tattooing sacred, as a result I do EVERYTHING in my power to ensure you get the best results that maximize the value of your investment, but that your tattoo is deeply reflective of you. That’s why I don’t just book appointments.
I start with something I call the Tattoo Chat.
Hi, it’s me Selina. Potentially your South Charlotte tattoo artist and I want to welcome you to an elevated experience getting tattooed. I create works of art and I interview clients to see if we creatively align and I can bring your vision to life on your skin. I am obsessed with quality tattoos- and I go to great lengths to make sure you as a client are seen, heard and ecstatic with your tattoo.
I offer a zero cost, zero commitment Tattoo Chat to new clients and returning clients.
Framed after my one on ones with a manager when I was a compliance manager for an ink corporation, I found the framing of the conversation positive, supportive and helpful. I adopted this after I opened my business to make myself amiable to anyone who just had general tattoo questions. It’s a free, no-pressure consultation that’s more meaningful than just a formality. As your artist I truly want to get to know you so I can help you make your tattoo as special as I possibly can.
I genuinely love the people I tattoo and getting to know them and about their tattoo is just something so deeply apart of my working process it's important I talk with each client. It’s how I make sure the tattoos I create are meaningful, well-planned, and aligned with your story, your goals, and your skin.
💬 What Happens in a Tattoo Chat?
Think of it as a conversation, not a sales pitch. During our chat, we’ll talk about:
Your vision—whether you have a clear idea or just a feeling you want to express.
The meaning behind what you’re getting, and how it fits into your life.
Your skin and healing process—especially if you’ve had past experiences with tattooing or special considerations like scars, skin tone, or sensitivities.
Budget and scheduling—so we can break your tattoo into sessions, plan ahead, and avoid surprises.
Your comfort level—from pain tolerance to how long you like to sit, to how you want your session to feel (quiet, chatty, music, etc).
I’ll also share a bit about myself—why I tattoo, how I approach my work, and what you can expect from me throughout your experience.
✨ What Happens after the Tattoo Chat ?
If you are ready to proceed, here’s the next step.
We will contact you to book - Sam our administrative assistant contacts clients via text from the 904-400-3776 to book. We do we require everyone to self book thru the link she will provide.
I may give you ‘homework’ - Sometimes when I get on the phone with my clients- they have specific request and I will ask people to show me pictures or send me a Pinterest board. I am the tattoo artist who will look your reference and use that for your inspo.
I will start your tattoo artwork—once your booking fee is paid then the artwork will be be drafted. Depending on your project- I may ask you to review a sketch. This is not available for every tattoo.
You MAY be asked to come in for an in-person tattoo consult—sometimes this is needed for really complicated projects, or tattoos that span a really large area. For traveling clients, or those limited with bandwidth- we will do video consultations.
You might also be booked for a hybrid tattoo session- Usually this is reserved for clients with large projects, and reinventing tattoos- I will start tattooing you the day of and do a consultation at the same time.
I’ll also share a bit about myself—why I tattoo, how I approach my work, and what you can expect from me throughout your experience.
🔍 Why Do I Do This?
Because tattoos aren’t just art—they’re a collaboration. And I want to work with clients who care as much about the process as the outcome.
This step:
Builds trust
Helps us plan smarter
Ensures we’re on the same page
Makes your tattoo something truly yours
By taking the time to connect, we avoid rushed decisions or mismatched expectations. I only take on projects where I know I can give my best—and that starts with listening.
